#HOLIDAYS - Independence Day

Hello everyone!
Sorry, I haven't been posting for long time... I didn't have leisure :(

Today I'm writing about one of the most important holidays for Americans.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

On July 4th, people all over the USA celebrate Independence Day. It's one of the country's biggest celebrations - everybody has a holiday. Every town and city organises parades, fireworks, barbecues and picnics. Sometimes there are concerts, sporting events and other celebrations, at which people sing the national athem (The Star-Spangled Banner).

Independence Day marks the historic date in 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was approved by a group called the Continental Congress. The written declaration basically stated that the American colonies were tired of being ruled by Great Britain. It was time for them to become their own country. Before the declaration, America was part of the Kingdom of Great Britain.

The Declaration of Independence, now housed at the National Archives in Washington D.C., is recognised around the world as an important message of self-governance and human rights.

Today the United States and Great Britain are friends :)
